Google Ara - Google's Modular Smartphone

The current state of the mobile phone industry lacks variety as everyone seems to have either a normal or grand sized touchscreen slab.  The Google Ara is the modular smartphone that will allow users to customize everything.  You will be able to modify the battery size, camera and even the phone's mobile processors.  Users will be able to add and subtract parts in order to create the device that is perfect for them. Project Ara Project Ara (aka Phonebloks Volume 2) is Google's codename for this 'open hardware' platform of modular smartphones.  The project was created to reduce electronic waste.  Google sold Motorola to Lenovo and Project Ara then joined the Android team at Google.
